Sex. Love. Lust. Passion…
A Gritty and Unapologetic Look at Relationships

Yemaya Production Company in conjunction with Arch Productions presents an intriguing adaptation of Patrick Marber's CLOSER

New York, New York-- December 29, 2006 --Sex, love, lust and passion....all play key ingredients in Closer as produced by New York-based theatrical companies Yemaya Production Company and Arch Productions. Teaming to create the first all African-American production of Patrick Marber's comedic drama, co-Producers Suzanne Harvin (Yemaya Production Company) and Damien Smith (Arch Productions) bring a "new look" to the stage of the famed Nuyorican Poets Cafe. The show will run February 1-3, 8-10 and 15-17. All performances begin at 7 pm. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door.

"Patrick Marber's writing is riveting and compelling,” remarks director Suzanne Harvin. “After reading Closer I knew I had to stage this challenging production."

Closer examines four strangers' foray into the oftentimes dark reality of human lust and desire. The play delves into sexual politics in a way that is both entertaining and gripping for today's mature audience. Closer follows the story of Dan, an obituary writer, Alice, a stripper, Anna, a photographer and Larry, a dermatologist whose very different lives become intermingled in an intricate web of love and betrayal. This play presents an honest view about how men and women connect in our fast paced, cyber society.

Closer directed by Jeffrey Speetjens and starring Suzanne Harvin as Alice, features the acting talents of Donovan Christie as Dan, Andaye Hill as Anna and Julian James as Larry.

Prior to its opening, Yemaya Production will be hosting an evening of tribute to freedom and art in the rawest form featuring the talents of dynamic women through gallery pieces and stage performances on January 11 from 6 to 9 pm at the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe (236 East 3rd Street between Avenues B and C).

For more information and to purchase tickets for the fundraiser, contact Suzanne Harvin at (718) 354-0807 or yemayaproductioncompany@gmail.com.

ABOUT YEMAYA PRODUCTION COMPANY
Yemaya Production Company was founded by Suzanne Harvin in 2006. Reflections

I had such a beautiful Christmas this year. Just like with Thanksgiving, my house seemed to turn into the place to be...I am so thankful for that. My grandma and aunt spent the night on Christmas eve, so that we could all wake up early and have our traditional Christmas brunch. This year, two of my mom's oldest friends dropped by to visit as well. I think that it had been almost two years since we had seen them...This time of year always serves as a much needed catalyst to get people together, and I love it.

Today was just special within itself, I talked to most of my family and left voicemails for most of my friends. It felt good chatting with my sister Cherish and even having a nice convo with my Dad...So although we didn't have the 19 people we had over for Thanksgiving, we still got a pretty good crowd...16 was the total, and we still have an entire cake left and so many leftovers. My cousin Erika comes to visit on Thursday, I'm so excited to see her. She's such a great girl, she's definitely one of my less annoying younger cousins. At 25, she's finally old enough to hang out with me, lol.

Most importantly, I was surrounded by love today. Do you know incredible it feels to be engulfed in unconditional love? Love from my family was like the personification of God's love for us...so beautiful. So if any of you are ever in NC during the holidays and want to experience a good old fashion family Thanksgiving or Christmas...just holla at me...That's it for now...Hope everyone had a great Christmas and remembered what this holiday is really about.

Peace & Blessings

Paranoia

This month I celebrate my one year anniversary of purchasing my house. I must say that it feels great to be a home owner. But of course, with that comes a great deal of responsibility. What happens when something breaks...I gotta fix it...What happens when my yard needs cutting...I gotta cut it. Seriously, I really need a husband right now for the completely unappealing task of taking out the trash and putting it on the curb for Friday morning pick up. And I am so happy I don't live in a place where there are so many natural disasters because I am paranoid enough as it is dealing with my ghetto neighbors...Maybe I should just put together one of those Emergency Kits...so much to do, so little time (Obviously I have enough time to think of too many random subjects to write about, lol)

TV Aint What it Used to Be

I realize that I have been doing a bunch of random posts...there is a reason for that. I'm random, lol. Now but seriously, I was watching one of those Maury Povich shows and I was astounded. What is Maury trying to do exactly, take over where Jerry left off. I mean c'mon, just how many Paternity Test shows can you really do before it gets boring...or better yet those, from Geek to Chic shows...AHHHHH...Quality television, Oh where art thou? I can't watch a certain supermodels show without laughing, and Oprah's show just doesn't hold the same appeal for me the way it once did. I guess I'll just stick with my basic channels, IFC, Bravo, WE, HBO and The TV Guide Channel (yes I love just watching what's coming on for hours on end, lol) ...Welcome to my random world.

Guess Who's Coming?

No one...No one is coming to visit...however, I am in redecoration mode and I'd love to redo the guest room. Right now it's a reading room/guest room/den combination. And it will probably stay that way until I bite the bullet and just buy a new bedroom suit for the room. The problem is that I have very expensive tastes. Nevertheless I found a site that I could use to outfit the space fairly reasonably. Coaster Furniture seems to have some decent stuff. I'll surf around on their site and see if I can come up with anything that I want to order. Now all I have to do is figure out what colors would go well in that room...

So at least when someone decides to finally come visit, the room will be ready.

Dang...It's Christmas Time

Christmas is literally around the corner, and I am just not prepared. This is insane, last year I had everything under control: holiday cards were mailed weeks in advance, all the Christmas shopping had been completed by Dec. 15th...but this year...utter Mayhem. I know what I am going to do next year though, I am going to do those printable greeting cards so that I don't have to worry about standing at the Hallmark store at Eastland Mall with my mouth gaping open like a blowfish wondering what kind of card to get my second cousin on my Dad's side...not me, not the kid.

Tick...Tick...Tick

Everywhere I look these days, a lot of my friends are either preparing to get married or getting ready for a little bundle of joy to arrive. All this kid talk has seriously got me listening to that incessant ticking my biological clock can't (or won't) seem to let me forget about, LMAO. Anyway, instead of getting all freaked out about the lack of plausible prospects for my "baby daddy" (please there will be no kids--not even adopted ones--until there is a nice, simple yet elegant gold band (well, platinum or white gold) around my finger after exchanging vows in the presence of God and our families. But if I were to have a child anytime soon, I must say that I would have a ball shopping for them...especially when it comes to outfitting my child’s room and doing the whole cool interior design thing. I can see myself getting obsessed (and somewhat fanatical) with finding the perfect kids bed for my little angel to slumber in. I was a somewhat spoiled only child, so I had the typical pink and white princess room, complete with a canopy bed. How my mom afforded to create that kind of sanctuary for me while living in the hood is still a mystery to moi. I guess stranger things have happened…Hope everyone’s Monday is going well…

Peace & Blessings

Manic Monday...not really

So from time to time, I work temp jobs to supplement my ambitious dream of being an entrepreneur. Hey…still gotta pay the bills when clients are slow with their invoices, lol. I’m loving this gig that I’m working today…Not only do I get to watch TV all day long, but I can freely use the computer and the internet without some crazy supervisor on a power trip giving me grief because they decided micro managing is the only managerial style that makes them happy…

But enough about that…on to other things. I‘ve decided to do my annual cleansing of the mind and body. I refuse to go into 2007 with the same baggage that I’ve carried all year, emotional and otherwise.

It’s time to get clean—free and clear of negativity and self doubt. I want to experience new things, new people, and new situations. I love life, and I am ready to explore. I’ve been in a rut for the past few months, and it’s time to break the shackles of this box in which I have placed myself. “Give us Free”…lmao, those of you who have seen the movie will get the reference.

Anyway…this is random, but I came across this great post about Black Male Stereotypes…check it out when you get a moment: Speak Freely/The Truth About Black Men
I would love to hear your thoughts about this. Let’s get some good discussion going...

Well, I should get back to work, I’ll post more later. Just wanted to fill you all in, at least partially.

Peace & Blessings
