I Ain’t Scared of No Revolution…

Every generation needs a new revolution.”-Thomas Jefferson

I’m feeling that itch, that overwhelming need to make something happen. Change is not happening fast enough for me, I’m impatient when it comes to injustice. I’m annoyed by all those who love to hear the sound of their voice, but I never see the fruits of their so-called labor. I come from a long line of rebel rousers, revolutionaries who never accepted the status quo; yet, I feel as if the significance of all that sacrifice and suffering our ancestors toiled through is wasted upon my generation and even the next.

My generation is seemingly living the life---great economic and educational opportunities, advancements in every segment of society, ability to socially interact with all cultures, ethnicities and races without any hint of trepidation. In a word, we are free. But are we? The stench of the racism that our parents and grandparents endured has long been replaced with the fanciful, sweet smelling scent of forgetfulness. “Things have changed”…”Slavery is over”… “Stop blaming the white man”…those statements dance around in our heads, like the juke and jiving Sambo that many in this country still consider us.

And don’t think I’m just talking about Black people…All y’all brown folks better wake up as well…The divide and conquer technique has, pretty much, been successful. Keep the Asians afraid of the Blacks…Make sure the Blacks blame the Latinos for taking their jobs…Push the Latinos to hate the Blacks….And even a step further, Let’s accentuate the differences between all those ethnicities instead of the many shared experiences of oppression and survival. It’s time for solidarity within our own communities and with each other. As a matter of fact, it’s past time.

I don’t know about you, but I ain’t scared of no revolution…are you with me?

The List

I’ve come up with my own list of fabulous famous men…Some are gorgeous, some of stylish, some simply have great personalities…but for whatever reason, they have ended up on my Top 10. Feel free to leave me a comment if you agree, disagree or even better---who you would add to your list.

In no particular order:

Denzel Washington
Rugged good looks, highly intelligent, tremendously talented. Just sexy for no reason, lol.

Keanu Reeves
I have a weakness for Keanu...maybe it is the voice. Not sure. I've had a huge crush on him since I first saw Speed. The crush was reinforced after the Matrix saga. So cute.
Boris Kodjoe
He was born in Austria; there is something about a man who is born overseas that makes him so instantly attractive. He speaks five languages...Five. And he is absolutely flawless...It almost hurts to look at him.

Common
Words can't even express how I feel about Common when I see him...thoughtful, conscious lyrics...intelligence is so seductive

Idris Elba
Yum, yum, yummy. This man is beautiful. Gorgeous dark brown skin. British accent (born in London to African parents)...whew. That's all I have to say.

Michael Ealy
I can unequivocally say that this pick was all about looks. Although I would love to get to know Mr. Ealy as a person, I would love to just sit and stare at this gorgeous man even more.

George Clooney
This man has aged well...just like a fine wine. I found him the most attractive in Out of Sight with J-Lo. He was just a cool dude.

Antonio Sabato, Jr.
I was in love at first site when I saw him in Janet's Love Will Never Do Without You video.

Mario Lopez
The quinessential boy next door...and ultimate unassumming heartthrob had me melting since I first saw him on Saved By The Bell. Big smiles and dimples are always seductive.

Matthew McConaughey
Hmmmmm. He's a southern boy, which definitely has it's own special appeal. He is eccentric and a bit of a bad boy. Not too mention, a great actor and oh so special to look at.

School Spirit

I'm so excited, Northwestern (My Alma Mater) plays Illinois on Saturday. In light of recent career choices, I have been forced to become a sports fan as of late. And funny enough, it has been a smooth transition. Anyway, back to the game. If we are able to truly do well, then it is highly likely that we will end up in a bowl game.
Here are some of the projections:

ESPN

College Football News

Fox Sports

Personally, I'd be thrilled if we ended up going to the Alamo Bowl (which isn't likely, but a girl can hope) because I've been meaning to visit the great state of Texas ever since my friend Neera moved there. We shall see what happens...

Just Breathe

Fortunately, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., I sit in front of two huge windows and a set of glass double doors. I am pleased by this because it means that I have an unencumbered view of the world, even though I am tied to my desk all day. It’s such a blessing to be able to look at all of the beauty of nature while working during the day. It gives you a sense of calm, a sense of stirring serenity that helps to sustain you even during the most hectic of days. I find that I must center myself several times during a day (otherwise known as prayer), because each and every time the phone rings that peace is disrupted by the cares of the outside world…but I have my windows, my view that allows me to shed responsibility for a split second and remember what it is like to be free. Living without societal responsibilities—in this world, bills do not exist.

So today, when you all are trying to meet a deadline, in the middle of some stressful meeting, or you are just simply trying to survive the day…I encourage you to dig deep, find whatever you need to provide you with a sense of peace, of calm, and use it to center yourself. Spend some time with God today; it’ll do wonders for you.

I Get Knocked Down...But I Get Up Again

Being sick sucks...yes ladies & gents, I still have the most annoying lingering cough...why, why, why won't it go away. My energy level is still a little iffy, but I can't stop and rest. Entirely too much stuff to do...

So I tried my hand at video blogging last night…LMAO. Talk about hilarious. Trying to be your own videographer is, at best, challenging. But I will not give up. I will have something by next week…that’s my word.

This past weekend was a bit hectic, lots of stuff going on…however I managed to coordinate a fashion show as well as walk in the show (nothing like throwing yourself in the middle of a show when you have a shortage of models, you do what you have to do). I don'[t know if the photographer is going to release any of the photos in a timely manner, but I'll keep you posted.

If you are in the Charlotte area this weekend, you should come one out to the Women That Rock party @ Loft 1523. The event is sponsored by The Sol Kitchen and Creative Loafing. I'll be there with bells on...

Also, there is a super entertaining culture event coming up the following weekend: OC Fest, where they will be showing some great independent films. I've included the trailer for one of the films. Definitely looking forward to doing something cool in the Queen City.

I'm Ready for My Closeup

So I have decided to implement video blogging into my repetoire of self publishing to the net. Lord help us all. I'm actually not all that exciting, but I figure I have access to a camera so why not. As proven by my digital pics from the wedding, I am dangerous with the picture taking...lol. My first episode should be up next week, I'll probably add it to Myspace and see what happens.

I have a fashion show tomorrow, I have my fitting tonight; but I desperately want to get in front of someone's camera for my next shoot...I need new photos badly...I am used to shooting several times a quarter, and I haven't shot since April or May. Totally unacceptable. We will see what happens...

More Than Sex finally returns Sunday. We took some time off but now we are back better than ever. Make sure you tune in and see what Curt and I discuss on Sunday.

Peace & Blessings
