Good Things Come To Those Who Wait

I’m very excited; one of my articles for ESPN Regional Television was published on the web this past Friday. This was my first attempt at sports writing, and I must say that I had a great time. My interview subject was passionate and forthcoming about his life…which made my job easier. Definitely a challenge; nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed stretching myself and climbing out of my comfort zone…after all, writing is writing.

First Person: Jermaine Johnson

Enjoy! Let me know what you think.

My second home…

Yes, people, it is indeed that time. It’ time for Jameka to invade New York City once again. Y’all know you missed me. In typical diva fashion, I’m thinking of coordinating a low key, private soiree at either a lounge or restaurant to see everyone. No doubt, I will hit BK and BX, and I’m staying in Manhattan, so I will make the rounds. Nevertheless, I think it would be fun for people to mix & mingle….And I get to meet someone special to me for the first time. We shall see if sparks fly in person as much as they do over the phone. Nevertheless, I can promise that I won’t do anything crazy like get married on a whim (a low blow I know, but I had to mention it man, it was too easy, lol)…but I do plan on having a good time in the city.

On an unrelated note, the Mosaic Literary Center had its first event Wednesday night. It was a resounding success. People felt comfortable, and we were able to raise awareness about what we do and how we do it. Definitely a good look. Next time, we will do our best to raise some money for our cause…but that’ll soon come no doubt (said in my best imitation of a Jamaican accent).

Life is good. I can’t complain. There are other things going on in my life that I don’t care to share just yet…but all I can say is that I am blessed and happy that Christ has me in the palm of His hand.

Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow…Bittersweet Endings, New Beginnings

After four incredible years, I have made the decision to leave SOTAC Magazine. Believe me, this was not an easy decision, it was made after a lot of thought, prayer and meditation. My time at SOTAC has run its course; it is time for me to focus on family and my own personal endeavors separate and distinct from publishing the magazine.

To say that I learned a lot doesn’t even scratch the surface. SOTAC proved to be a remarkable training ground where I was able to use all of my talents and abilities in a positive and constructive way. Working on the magazine will be missed immensely, I thrived off of the deadline pressure, working with new (and very difficult) artists and writers…and just dealing with the social politics of the urban arts & culture scene here in Charlotte. I helped to create a one of a kind product, so I hope you all continue to support SOTAC in the years to come…after all; it is still part of my legacy (smile).

If anyone is interested in being featured in the publication, let me know and I will pass on the appropriate contact information.

A Brand New World

Change is a beautiful thing. To say that I have made some life altering decisions during the past few weeks would be an understatement to the nth degree…but it is what it is, and I am thankful to God for giving me the wisdom and understanding to make some tough decisions.

I can’t go into too much detail, but I have refocused personally and professionally. I am so excited about my new direction. Anyway, I have plenty of work to do this year, but I wanted to thank you all for wanting to be a part of this journey with me. I’ve got plenty of updates to share later, but I did want to pop into the blogosphere real quick to say, Thank you, I appreciate you and Happy New Year. Remember, 2008 is the year for dream fulfillment. Go for your dreams this year, it’s time to make it happen.

Peace & Blessings
