Charlotte celebrities suit up, get down to business at SouthPark on Oct. 23, 24

CHARLOTTE, NC (Oct. 12) – This fall, local media personalities and celebrities are giving back…with a bit of glamour. At the Dress for Success Charlotte Runway Show at Simon Fashion Now™, Charlotte VIPs will take a turn down the catwalk to celebrate the season’s fashions while inspiring the community to give back. On October 23 and 24, Simon Fashion Now will introduce consumers to the fashion highlights of the fall season. Guests will see an extensive selection of the latest styles from SouthPark retailers through a series of runway shows. Additionally, there will be a series of interactive style shops hosted by select retailers where tips and trends will be shared on topics ranging from skin care to accessorizing.

As a special part of Friday evening’s festivities, guests can also enjoy an exclusive silent auction to benefit Dress for Success Charlotte from 5:00-7:30 p.m. A special Dress for Success Runway Show will take place at 7 p.m. and will showcase how new and gently worn business attire can be fashion forward – while making a big difference in the lives and careers of local women. With renewed closets, and enhanced self-esteem, women in need can gain the tools and support they need to further their careers with confidence. Charlotte residents are encouraged to bring conservative, interview appropriate accessories to the Dress for Success Charlotte table at Circle Court on Friday evening to donate to Dress for Success, which promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Charlotte STYLE Magazine Hosts Networking Mixer & Panel Discussion to Empower, Encourage and Strengthen Charlotte’s Emerging Fashion and Style Industry

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (October 15, 2009) – Charlotte STYLE Magazine will host a networking mixer and panel discussion specifically for the Queen City’s growing fashion and style industry on October 20, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This stylish event will take place at Urbana City Spa and Tea Bar’s Huntersville location in Birkdale Village, where attendees will be able to mix, mingle and foster mutually beneficial business relationships in a relaxed social setting. The event’s panelists include some of Charlotte’s most notable industry professionals. Panelists include: Scott Cooper (Wilhelmina Evolution), Fatima Butler (Celebrity Make Up Artist), Donna Livingston (DL Designs, Inc) and Tara Davis (Flow by Tara Davis).

This is the first in a series of industry mixers hosted by Charlotte Style Magazine aimed at Charlotte’s emerging fashion scene. These mixers will serve as a way to bring all of Charlotte’s industry professionals together under one roof to truly network with a purpose, whether that means making business deals, solidifying partnerships or to finding out who is truly a who’s who in the industry. The ultimate goal of the series is to strengthen and eventually make Charlotte's Fashion & Style Industry one of the best in the Southeast.

Seeking Talented Female Independent Music Artists

NABFEME Charlotte Seeks Hot Female Artists for Talent Showcase

CHARLOTTE, NC-October 14, 2009- The Charlotte Network of The National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME) will hold auditions for its next “Women Who Jam” concert on October 27, 2009 at PJ’s Coffee & Lounge from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. NABFEME Charlotte is seeking the best and brightest female independent artists in the Greater Charlotte Metropolitan area to grace the stage.

“Women Who Jam” is one of NABFEME Charlotte’s signature events and serves to highlight female music artists in an entertaining and supportive atmosphere. Those interested in auditioning for the main show are asked to bring a photo, bio or press kit, and be prepared to sing a one to two- minute selection of their choosing a cappella. The actual “Women Who Jam” concert will occur on Thursday, November 12, 2009. The location will be announced at a later date.

In addition to providing a viable platform for the artists to showcase their talents, NABFEME Charlotte will be accepting donations for Amped 4-A-Cure, an initiative providing support to cancer research through the universal language of music. Can goods and other non perishable items will also be collected for those in need.

PJ’s Coffee & Lounge is located at 210 East Trade Street on the first floor of the EpiCentre in Uptown Charlotte. Admission is free and open to the public. He's Back: Dr. Cornel West

New Book Defines a Notable Cultural Icon
(Charlotte, NC) October 8, 2009– World renown cultural and intellectual icon Dr. Cornel West will be the keynote speaker at the next “Change is Coming to Charlotte” event series on October 30, 2009 at Spirit Square. In addition to West’s lecture, there will be live jazz, spoken word poetry, a book signing, and meet and greet with Dr. West. This is an evening of entertainment suitable for the entire family. This event will serve as a fundraiser for the Charlotte Literary Festival’s “Kickoff to Writing” scholarship program.

Educator and philosopher Cornel West is the Class of 1943 University Professor at Princeton University. Known as one of America’s most gifted, provocative, and important public intellectuals, he is the author of the contemporary classic Race Matters, which changed the course of America’s dialogue on race and justice; and the New York Times bestseller Democracy Matters. He is the recipient of the American Book Award and holds more than 20 honorary degrees.
