I am so incredibly blessed. I have friends who will, at a drop of a hat, do anything possible to help me out. For instance, the magazine’s 3rd year anniversary celebration is on Friday, and my friends have really stepped up to the plate. They are doing everything from working the door, running errands the day of, preparing food, you name it, they are doing it. And it is a beautiful thing. I feel so loved and appreciated. Shame on me for ever complaining about anything ever again.
I have experienced some intense personal challenges recently, and my people were there for me with open hearts, minds and lots of hugs and encouragement. So for once, instead of keeping my thoughts shrouded in secrecy, I’m naming names because I want to say Thank you.
Khendra: I would literally go insane if I didn’t have you in my life. I call you my best friend, but that is not entirely accurate. You are so much more. I have known you since we were 14 and all I can say is that we are bonded for life. You are not my friend, you are my sister, simply put, we are family.
Erin: I don’t even have words for how much I appreciate you. You always give so unselfishly. You have a beautiful spirit and you will be blessed for just being you. I am thrilled that we met, and that you have developed into one of my very best friends; we are so much alike sometimes that it is scary. You have been through so much, but have managed to persevere with grace, class and style. I am so proud of you.
Jacinta: I feel like we have always known each other. You and mini-me (her daughter Keljah for those of you who don’t know) have been phenomenal additions to my extended family. You are always there. You are always real. You are always a friend. Thank you sis.
Jules: We are soul mates chica. You are one of the very best (and brilliant) people that I have ever met in my entire life. Who know that taking Kim’s acting class spring quarter senior year would award me the opportunity to meet not only a very good friend, but a fellow divalicious compadre who enjoys being fabulous just as much as I do., lol.
Deb: Da Underground Joint Magazine, Grad School, SOTAC Magazine-‘nuff said. We are bonded for life.
And to my girls who shun away from public recognition (Neera, Tille, Tia)…I love you all and you already know what you mean to me.
Now on to the fellas…
Christopher W: Northwestern would not have been the same without you there. You taught me that gentlemen do indeed exist, nice guys don’t finish last, that real men are respectful at all times, and that true friendship transcends color lines.
Curt: You make me laugh. You make me think. And most of all, you genuinely care about my well being. I’ll never forget how you have been the faithful big brother, through all the break ups, financial woes and other issues. Good looking out love.
Champion: Wow. Who know that you would become one of my confidants? No matter what people or even I may say from time to time about you, one thing is certain: you don’t lie, you always tell me the truth as you see it. And you listen to me…that’s a true friend.
Chuck: I don’t know what to say about our friendship, so many different facets. What I will say is that I am glad that I met you, four years and counting…that’s a long time to know someone. You always make me smile Mr. Holiday, and you did make the list, so I guess that means there must be something special about you.
Kwana: You are new to the fold, but definitely an honorable mention. You were there to comfort me when I cried. That in itself speaks volumes.
Now if you were not mentioned by name, don’t be upset. I have a host of people whom I love and care about…but that is another list for another day.
Enjoy your life people. Be thankful for those who you can truly call a friend---they are invaluable assets that can never be replaced. I pray that you all can be a fortunate as me. Thank you Jesus for all that you have given me.
Peace & Blessings
