Workshop Summary: Matt Coapman of Green Home LLC will speak about the importance of energy efficiency in our homes and how it directly impacts our local environment. He details how homeowners can take simple but highly effective steps to make their homes healthier, more comfortable, and energy efficient. Karen Langbehn of UNCC will speak to environmental sustainability issues in the Charlotte/North Carolina regions.

Panel Summary: Social Media Networking is not a trend and is here to stay. This panel discussion is designed to assist people in learning how to market and brand themselves using social media (with particular emphasis on Twitter and Facebook).

Samantha Badger is an Associate Producer at FOX Charlotte and is serving as FOX News Rising's Twitter Girl with her on air segment "Sam on Cam'' where she teaches people about Twitter. Samantha graduated from North Carolina at Charlotte in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in communications, with a concentration in public relations.

Laurie Smithwick is founder and Creative Director of the award-winning graphic and web design firm, LEAP Design {link: http://www.leapdesign.com}. She trained at Parsons School of Design and worked in NYC for 6 years before relocating to North Carolina. In 2007 she and two online friends launched Kirtsy.com {link: http://www.kirtsy.com}, a user-generated content aggregator for online news (also known, colloquially, as “"Digg for Chicks"”). Today, Kirtsy is a thriving community and a profitable company. This summer Kirtsy launched a hugely successful, nationwide "“Hands-On" campaign to educate women about social media, and in November, the Kirtsy book will be published: "Kirtsy Takes a Bow: A Celebration of Women's Online Favorites."

Crystal Dempsey is an accomplished writer/editor and Social Media Advocate. Recently deemed by Charlotte Magazine’s “Best Person to Follow on Twitter,” (@crystaldempsey) Crystal is the owner of From the Hip Communications, which specializes in program development and new media marketing strategies for non-profits and small businesses. Will Smith played Chris Gardner in the blockbuster movie "Pursuit of Happyness".
