This is It--Stop. Look. Listen

It was a gorgeous Autumn day...perfect for frolicking and being out and about, praising God for all his Glory and blessings.  Today I am thankful for:
  • Clarity of Mind
  • The unconditional love of my friends and family
  • The understanding that I am worth so much more than I give myself credit for...My life was paid for with a very steep price.  Christ gave of himself so that I would have the luxury of a clean slate.  I'd say that makes me special indeed.
With that said, enjoy today's anthem.  What are you thankful for?

Mother's Day 2009

B-Day Blues

April 26 Rapidly Approaches…

If one more person asks me about birthday plans, I may just lose it. Seriously, screaming and writhing on the floor seems like a logical and viable option if yet another individual goes…”so, what are you doing for your birthday.” Urgh.

I know it is a valid question, I often ask the same of my friends and associates. It is (on the surface) seemingly harmless enough…unfortunately for me, I cringe whenever asked. Why? It’s simple. I plan and organize all day long—for my day job, for both my companies, for my interns, for my church, family, friends, c-workers, etc, etc…and for once, I don’t want to plan anything…I’m a diva, and I would like for it to just be planned out for me. Nevertheless, because I have such a fun, yet eclectic and diverse group of friends I believe that’s close to an impossible task—pretty much for one reason: They all think they know me best. Trust me, I’m not complaining. This is a beautiful problem to have…I would be depressed if no one cared if my birthday was coming up.

Who knows, maybe I’ll just stick my nose in a book and come up for air on April 27.

I’ll keep you posted.

Spring In My Step

I realize that it is February, but it is hard to remember that significant detail when it is so incredibly gorgeous outside. The weather is phenomenal in Charlotte, NC--I love my hometown. This spring preview is making me smile with excitement of what the world has to offer...Ever since Fashion Friday launched and JSW Media Group has solidified its staff, I have been busier than ever, but strangely less stressed out than I have been in the past. I guess that is what happens when everything is finally "right."

So my weekends now officially begin on Thursdays, so this is how it went down last week:

Thursday: Fashion Friday Launch Party. View photos here

Friday: Stayed home to recover from the craziness of the Fashion Friday Launch. And most importantly, I was able to catch up with my friends from college (Love you Christopher)

Saturday: Weekly JSW Team Meeting: gearing up for the rest of the quarter and of course CIAA, yeah baby!. Worked on a few projects for church, and had dinner with Mom. Always fun.

Sunday: Church was awesome as usual. Then I got the chance to hang out with Ms. Joy Randall (Flawless Make Up Art) at Mez. Cool spot, and everyone was super friendly.

Anyway, I hope you have all had the opportunity to check out the new site, www.fashion-friday.com. Big ups to our Creative Director (and overall coolest dude on the planet) Xavier Grier for designing such a wonderful site. It feels good when a plan comes together the way that it is supposed to. If you are looking for something great to do this Thursday, check out "The Movement"...music, dance, art---soulful house music all night long. dj rsenal and Johnnie Davis will keep the beats going all night, and we will even have a friendly dj competition, so this is a night you don't want to miss. Come out, support, chill and have a great time. KISS Lounge is the spot...doors open at 10 p.m. Come through.

Remembering My Father...

Learning to Love

This year Valentine’s Day held special significance. Yes, it continued to be a day of love, but it turned more into a day of agape love. That universal, unconditional love. My heart and mind was opened in a way that I didn’t think was possible. I spent most of the day thinking about my father. He is terminally ill, and the doctors do not believe that he is going to make it. That’s one heck of thing to say to someone. He is currently under hospice care, and it is breaking my heart. But, as I have stated before (numerous times, probably ad nauseam) that this is not about me. It’s about what I can do for someone else to make their life more pleasant and fulfilling. No one knows when someone is going to die; only God knows for sure. I truly believe in my heart that everything and I mean EVERYTHING happens for a reason…even if that reason is to draw us closer to the Lord. As I think about my father, I cherish all of the great times as well as the difficult periods in our relationship. Memories are neither good nor bad, they simply are…they are the building blocks upon which our lives are built. I would not be the person that I am without those memories that helped to shape my existence.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered; it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails”
-I Corinthian 13: 4-8

On another note, I didn’t get a call, email or text message from any of my so-called love interests yesterday. I found that interesting, but such is life.

Peace & Blessings

Question for the Parents

Okay...as usual, I'm down to the wire trying to find the "perfect" gift for a few of my friends who have either had a child recently or are about to become parents. At least Verse made it easy and has a registry...but my other boy, who I love dearly like a brother, has not been so accommodating. He and his girl are not officially "together" so I was thinking of getting him the Emily crib so that when his little one comes to visit his bachelor pad, the baby actually has a real place to sleep...I know it's a lot for a non family member to spend on a gift, but like I said before, I love my friend dearly and would give him anything he needed in a second...and vice versa, that's when you know you are truly family. So what do you guys think? The kid isn't due til March, so I have some time.
