The Red Pump Project™ raises awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. Our mission is to promote HIV prevention through education, and open dialogue about the issues that surround sexual and reproductive health.
Founded in March 2009 by Luvvie Ajayi and Karyn Watkins, Red Pump believes that if HIV affects one, it affects us all. We use the red shoe as a symbol of empowerment to represent the strength and courage of women infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. The incorporation of fashion into the message of HIV prevention is our contribution as we hope to show that Awareness is Always in Style!™
Red Pump along with The Red Tie Project™ (which focuses on men), embody The Red Project Collective™, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on minority communities (women, people of color, LGBT). The Collective is doing work online and on the ground to motivate action and encourage dialogue about the effects of the disease.

What Are Your Plans for World AIDS Day 2010?
For the second year in a row I'll be at the 2nd Annual Red Pump/Red Tie Affair to commemorate World AIDS Day 2010 and give honor to the people who are working hard in our community to fight for HIV/AIDS Education and promoting Awareness. We are dying people, we are dying from this disease when we do have to. If you are in Charlotte, I urge you to support this event. Yeah, it's a fashionable cocktail party, but more than that---it is a cause, a movement to make someone's life better. Helping us help our beneficiary Regional AIDS Interfaith Network may just save someone's life. Maybe they will get the education needed to make smarter choices to live a longer, safer life.
Support The Red Pump Project-Charlotte, RAIN and the fight against AIDS. Know your status...get tested, and don't forget to "Rock the Red (tm)."

I Caught The Bug...Again
I'm talking about the teaching bug. People ask me everyday about social media--I'm not really an expert per se because, let's face it, no one really is; however I am willing to share the expertise that I acquired through trial and error...jumping in with both feet and still managing to stay afloat. So, ever since I was a guest lecturer for that online class for NYU's Continuing Education Course this summer, I've wanted to teach again. I still flirt with the idea of going back for my Ph D...or at least another Masters, we'll see. In the interim, I'm fulfilling my itch by teaching a beginners course on social media. It is my hope that someone will find it useful. It is part of my new seminar series for Aspiring Entrepreneurs. I'd love to see you there.

Queen City Get Ready
Granted September is always a busy month for art, music fashion and style, but seriously, this is the most action I've seen in the city in a good long while. It's a beautiful thing to see my hometown on the come up...
Last week, there were Fashion Night Out events all over (major shout to Effie from Lotus for putting on an entertaining fashion show at Butter...loved it); NDemand Magazine did a wonderful job with a fashion-forward production (and they made sure I had front row...muy importante, wink) last week, I'm hope to see more from them. Charlotte STYLE Magazine made the trip to NYC for fashion week...and more.
And of course, I am super excited about what's to come...Charlotte NC Fashion Week starts on 9/23 with the finale on 9/25...which also happens to be a big day for JSW Media Group. Our client, Katrise Jones is hosting the Grand Opening of Salon Se Swa with new co-owner Lil' Kim. We are helping to plan a series of glam events for the "Se Swa" weekend, starting with a ribbon-cutting with Mayor ProTem Patrick Cannon and Council Member Michael Barnes. Read the full press release here. If you are local press and want a spot on the red carpet during the grand opening, hit me up before Wednesday.
For full list of happenings, visit http://www.salonseswa.com/.

The Thrill of Teaching
I had the AWESOME opportunity to be a guest lecturer for an online continuing education class at NYU last week. When the instructor of the course, Heather Keets Wright, who happens to be a friend and colleague (and the best lunch companion ever) asked me to present to her class, I was humbled and utterly excited. My lecture was a primer on Social Media, with particular emphasis on the professional applications of Twitter, Facebook and Linked In. It felt good being able to share the knowledge that I've acquired over the last couple of years about social media with such eager and willing subjects. The students were so open to learning---their excitement was fresh and exciting..thus, making me feel the same way.
The experience was so wonderful...and now I'm addicted. I'm planning a series of upcoming workshops for aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners. I will definitely keep everyone posted as that develops.

All About the Men
Truly, there is nothing I enjoy more than being surrounded by professional men of all ethnicities who appreciate fashion, embrace an entrepreneurial spirit (not too mention good ole common sense thrown in for flavor), have impeccable taste, are socially aware and have a keen sense of personal style. These are the guys I love to flirt with at parties. So, in an effort to let these fellas know just how special they are, Charlotte STYLE teamed up with JSW & Crave Dessert Bar for The STYLE Suite: Men's Appreciation Event. During the evening, men in the Charlotte area will have the opportunity to be pampered...Why? Because we can...and we like you (at least I know I do).
The event is hosted by the beautiful and talented Kelly Hood, and will feature a fashion showcase, desserts, giveaways, complimentary massages and MANicures.
Fellas, let us take care of you. Come on out Thursday, June 24th from 6pm-10pm. Guys, come have a nice relaxing evening and let us cater to you. Ladies- I wouldn't miss it. This event is free...and it is truly ALL about the men! I'm excited to get my flirt on...are you with me?

It's About to Be On...And Poppin
Clearly, there is no rest for the weary, and this weekend is shaping up to be a busy one indeed. After reviewing my meeting calendar for next week AND my pr/event schedule for all of my clients, I have quite a bit of preparation to do, especially since we were able to pick up a new client today (yay!, official announcement coming later). This is not including my Amped work (lots on the table with that, great stuff that we will get to announce soon). Click here to read all about our 1 year anniversary! Also, check out our Paper Icon program, you can donate at the register at some of our participating retailers...great way to give back and support local business. I'm all about win-win situations.
So yeah, there is a lot on the plate for the weekend. I have a JSW team meeting @ 9 a.m. Summer Jazz at Tutto Mondo at 5 p.m. And a baby shower to attend in between at 3 p.m., lol. Talk about over scheduling your life:-). However, at the end of the day...I LOVE what I do. All of the madness, the prep, the excitment, the networking, the drama, all of it. At least I know I can handle it, and that is in itself, a blessing.

Weekend Roundup
Relaxed and Rejuvenated
How did I, with all my diva glam and innate fabulousness, spend the Memorial Day weekend--mostly in a tank top and sweats, but boy did I enjoy it. I took the time to hang out at my own house, something I rarely get to do most days, especially with the constant flow of meetings, events, work, etc. It was great doing nothing--well, that's not exactly true. I took the weekend to completely reorganize by home office. I decided that in order to make room for the new things to come into your life, you HAVE to dispose of the old stuff, it is a must.
However, I wouldn't be me if I didn't spend at least part of the time working an event. I attended the first night of Summer Jazz at Tutto Mondo (that's here in Charlotte for my out of state followers). Music was by The Queen's Collective, and I must say it was a good time. I enjoyed myself quite a bit.
I hope I can count on some of you to join me one of these weekends...Don't miss out:-)
