"Creativity is a Drug I can't live without"

Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow…Bittersweet Endings, New Beginnings

After four incredible years, I have made the decision to leave SOTAC Magazine. Believe me, this was not an easy decision, it was made after a lot of thought, prayer and meditation. My time at SOTAC has run its course; it is time for me to focus on family and my own personal endeavors separate and distinct from publishing the magazine.

To say that I learned a lot doesn’t even scratch the surface. SOTAC proved to be a remarkable training ground where I was able to use all of my talents and abilities in a positive and constructive way. Working on the magazine will be missed immensely, I thrived off of the deadline pressure, working with new (and very difficult) artists and writers…and just dealing with the social politics of the urban arts & culture scene here in Charlotte. I helped to create a one of a kind product, so I hope you all continue to support SOTAC in the years to come…after all; it is still part of my legacy (smile).

If anyone is interested in being featured in the publication, let me know and I will pass on the appropriate contact information.

Peace & Blessings

Mid Week Check In...

It’s only Wednesday, and I feel as if I have worked an entire week. So much going on, but I can’t complain…this is the fun part (at least that’s what I keep trying to remind myself). I’m currently working on about four projects simultaneously, and the adrenaline rush of getting everything done on time is that only thing that’s keeping me awake at this point (it’s definitely not the Starbucks, even though the coffee is a big help).

We are finishing up the editing on the Fall Issue of SOTAC, it is gorgeous people. Our art director is a phenom…we are blessed to have him; he’s a perfect fit to our personalities. I hope that everyone is as pleased with our current efforts as we are.

After our editing session, I have to make myself available for another editing session with another designer for a completely different project.

One of the highlights, however, was meeting Mr. John West, our Spring/Summer cover model and musician extraordinaire. He was gigging in Charlotte for one night only, so Deb and I were able to catch up with him…a very good look, he blessed us with some music and great conversation…(BTW- He does a great cover of Umbrella, check him out if you can…). Very cool dude in person. Watch to see more of him in the future.

I think I managed to stumble into bed around 4 a.m. All in all, a good day…

Rest & Relaxation…On The Green

What a great weekend. Although it was pretty much a working weekend (when is it not, lol), I had a great time. I spent all Saturday morning on the golf course…Talk about feeling like a grown woman. I can honestly say that I felt like a mature adult doing something absolutely fabulous. I even had on my cute golfing gear (I mean, c’mon, if you are going to play golf at somewhere like the Birkdale Golf Club, you may as well look the part). The main reason we decided to play golf this past weekend was because SOTAC sponsored the “Ladies on the Green” Golf Clinic, presented by SBB, a support group for women business owners and entrepreneurs. We even had a few teen girls from the Girl Talk Foundation join us, which provided us all with an opportunity to be inspired by some incredible young women, who are looking to do great things with their life. Again, I say, their stories were inspirational. Girl Talk Foundation provides a phenomenal service, so please support them.

Sunday was quite cool as well. My friend Keir stopped through on his way back to DC from Atlanta (he was celebrating his b-day) to check a sista out and see the new house (well my house isn’t exactly new anymore, but I think you know what I mean). I have known Keir since we were both in high school, and I hadn’t seen him since the fall DC trip, so we were well overdue for a visit.

And as usual, I had a fabulous time hosting More Than…Sex alongside my fearless co-host, Curtis Hevi. Those Sunday night shows always put me in an excellent mood for the remainder of the week. Having the talk show has proved to be a much needed creative outlet…it’s like blogging, only it has more instant gratification.

So all in all…a great weekend.

Exhausted...

What a day! I feel like I've been running a 50 mile marathon without a break for the last few days...today was no different. I was up and about early working on a couple of things for my mom and for church. Then I got the call the magazines were being delivered today, so I had to coordinate that delivery. I must say, the new issue looks nice, and for the most part, I'm very pleased. The cover is amazing and turned out better than even we expected. The response has been phenomenal. So far, so good. More later...

Peace & Blessings

Changes...Choices...Decisions (August 1, 2006)

The soiree was quite successful. Debony and I put a lot of work into the planning of this event, and I am just so pleased that everything went according to plan. Just want to thank everyone who can out and supported. Now on to the subject at hand...It's decision making time for Ms. Jameka. I have a lot of work to do in terms of the direction of my life, and I have some decisions that I need to make both personally and professionally. Lets start with the easy stuff: professional life. I plan on making a huge announcement by Labor Day in reference to my work with SOTAC and what we have planned for the future. Exciting stuff, believe me, but I just dont want to put it all out there just yet. Also, I should be finished with a major publishing project that I have been working on for one of my clients. I cant wait to share the finished product with all of you.

Now on to the good stuff...after an intense heart to heart with the man I am interested in, I know realize two things: Our feelings for each other are not changing anytime soon. He is a true friend who cares about me unconditionally. There is no doubt where I stand with him. I have absolutely no need to feel threatened by other women in his life. I have no need to feel anxious about the direction of our potential relationship. I'm good. I am still planning on revamping my social life and getting out and about more, but going out and enjoying myself is never going to negate how much I care for this person. When the time is right for us, it'll happen in God's time and it cannot be forced. So I am not going to force it. It is such a great feeling to be secure and happy...my freak out about relationships and men is officially over. I never stopped smiling, but now I feel like I have even more to smile about. God is good.

SOTAC Celebrates Two-Year Anniversary

We decided to keep the celebration low-key this year, but fun nonetheless...if you are in the Queen City in July, feel free to come and meet me and the rest of the SOTAC staff for memorable evening...Two years, nine issues later and we are still going strong.  Yay SOTAC!
